New Year’s Eve can be a time of fun and festivities, but also a frightening one for pets. Here are some helpful tips from the Hawaii Humane Society to help your pet cope with New Year’s Eve.
- Ensure your pets have identification – Pets should be microchipped and your current contact information on file with the Hawaiian Humane Society.
- Keep your pets in a safe place indoors – Do not leave your pet outside and unattended. Leave a radio or TV on at normal volume to provide some companionship while you’re attending festivities.
- Consult with your veterinarian – Consult your vet for ways to help alleviate the fear and anxiety your pet may experience during fireworks displays.
- Resist taking your pets to fireworks displays – Most animals do not enjoy the holiday’s noisy spectacles.
Call the Kauai Humane Society at (808) 632-0610 or your local humane society immediately if your pet is lost and file a report.
